Turk in the North
Turk in the North
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome! Iâm Yilmaz â Turkish by birth, Canadian by frostbite.
I grew up in TĂŒrkiye, traveled to 23 countries, swam in 3 oceans, skied on 3 continents⊠and then thought:
"You know whatâs missing? A place where my face hurts from the cold!"
Boom. Canada.
Now I spend my mornings chipping ice off my car like I'm mining for gold.
At -20°C.
While wondering if Tim Hortons should start selling space heaters with their coffee.
So, what is Turk in the North ?
Itâs me â trying to survive in a country where squirrels are friendlier than most people I met in college.
Itâs my life as an immigrant:
Turkish heart, Canadian snow tires.
Youâll find:
What we eat, drink, and accidentally put maple syrup on
How I brought Turkish culture here (yes, I packed my hookah, no, I couldnât find best Turkish restaurant yet.)
Daily life, strange events, cultural confusion, and the occasional âwhy is milk in a bag?â moment.
There will be subtitles. Maybe even voiceovers. Probably me trying to translate âkankaâ into English.
This channel isnât just about Canada â itâs about starting over, laughing at yourself, and realizing everyone is winging it⊠just with different accents.
So grab your çay or your Timmyâs, hit subscribe, and letâs figure this out together.
From the land of snow and politeness,
